Choosing your first class

Meet the four release classes and use a practical checklist to choose a hero without relying on an untested tier list.

Quick answer

Choose the class whose available abilities you enjoy and understand. There is not enough reproducible release-version testing in our source set to name a best starter or rank the four classes by damage.

The release achievements identify Warrior, Sorcerer, Hunter and Monk. Use these names when looking for current guides. An older beta announcement called one class Mage; historical naming should not be mistaken for an additional release class.

What the current notes actually tell us

Class Release information worth knowing How to use it
Warrior Patch 1.0.0g changed Whirlwind so material collection can interrupt it Check patch version when comparing older demonstrations
Sorcerer Named in the release class achievements Search with the release name when comparing guides
Hunter The patch corrected an equipment-drop imbalance that affected its weapons Do not judge current drops from pre-patch anecdotes
Monk Chain Force and Spirit Twin received fixes Recheck older advice that depended on those effects behaving incorrectly

These are documented changes, not a power ranking. A bug fix alone does not establish which class is strongest.

A checklist for making the choice

  1. Read the available ability descriptions in the current game.
  2. Choose a playstyle you want to watch and refine over many sessions.
  3. Try a short session before investing heavily into a specific setup.
  4. Note whether the setup survives and progresses comfortably for your intended use.
  5. Look for advice that names its patch, equipment and test conditions.

If a guide depends on an item you do not own, treat it as a future target. Do not assume its advertised result applies to your starting equipment.

How to judge a class guide

A useful guide explains the goal, required equipment, ability choices, companion role and trade-offs. A screenshot of a large damage number cannot tell you how expensive or reliable the setup is.

Before copying it, ask whether you can reproduce the setup and whether its purpose matches yours. A timed challenge and a comfortable farming session may reward different choices.

Build the first version

Use the starter build worksheet to turn your class choice into a small, testable setup. It is shared across classes and does not require a named legendary item.
